General Discussion • Re: Interfacing with Media Players

I'm putting this in the general forum since it's a question about where my actual question should go. Or, more accurately, where there is decently organized and comprehensive information available.

Here are the specifics:

1) I'm a Rainmeter user, not a developer.
2) I'm specifically interested in utilizing Lcars (currently Lcars 3)
3) The only element of the Lcars skin I'm having issues with is the media player. I can't seem to find any comprehensive information about how skins work with media players, or exactly where any of the code is supposed to live, and the syntax seems to be very specific to Rainmeter (a syntax I've yet to make sense of).
4) Although I'm not a skin developer, I have messed with tons of various codes in the past so I do understand basic programming principles.

So lets start with the most important question:

Where in Rainmeter is the media library/player set up and exactly how? In RM itself or in the skins?

EDIT: Since there is a lot of Lcars "stuff" out there, this is a link to the specific skin.

Welcome to the forum :welcome:

** I see several other members have responded, but I will leave this info...

Thank you for the link to the package you are working with. Unfortunately, it is almost 700 MB and most people, though trying to help, will not want to download and install it to test; that includes me :Whistle

Let me try to answer your first question about media and Rainmeter...

Rainmeter is not a media player.

But it has a PLUGIN (NowPlaying.dll) that allows transferring information and current state of your supported media player to a Rainmeter skin.

The skin will contain MEASURES to obtain information from the current selected player. Then use METERS to display that in a skin.

How that information is displayed is totally up to the skin author.
It is necessary to set the plugin to work with your media player in the skin. Many authors offer setting skins to help with this task. I would think LCars would have this feature due the extant it tries to ensure access to almost every system function.

If none of this helps, I would suggest contacting the author of LCars for specific help.
